Odoo implementation in the UAE: timeline and go-live plan.
Al Jawad Bot

A typical Odoo implementation in the UAE takes three to five months for a single-entity operation with standard processes, and nine to eighteen months for a multi-company, multi-country group with integrations and data migration. The duration is set by scope, data quality and how quickly decisions are taken, not by the number of modules. Anyone quoting a duration before discovery is quoting a template, not your project.

How long does an Odoo implementation take in the UAE?

Type of organisationTypical durationWhat dominates the timeline
Single entity, standard processesThree to five monthsData clean-up and migration, user acceptance, training
Several departments, a few integrationsSet by discoveryIntegrations with banks, government portals and e-commerce, and the number of processes that change
Multi-company, multi-country groupNine to eighteen monthsEntity structure, consolidation, migration of several legacy systems, phased rollout

Phasing matters more than speed. We phase against operational milestones, not module groups, so each phase changes one measurable thing. A single go-live is defensible only for a small, single-entity operation with a hard deadline.

What are the stages, and what gates each one?

Why do the first six weeks matter most?

Most Odoo implementations that are rebuilt were not badly built. They were built to match what the organisation already did, including the parts it did badly, and then customised heavily to preserve those habits. The decisions that prevent that are taken before any configuration starts: what stays standard, what genuinely needs an extension, which processes change to fit the platform. We apply a fixed hierarchy to every requirement: standard first, then configuration, then integration, and customisation last.

What is specific to the UAE?

  • VAT at 5%. Tax invoices carry the supplier's tax registration number, and the chart of accounts and tax codes must support the VAT return. Odoo includes a UAE localisation, which your partner configures to your registration.
  • Corporate tax. The standard rate is 9% on taxable profits above AED 375,000. Your ERP does not file the return, but the books it produces must support it, including the treatment of related-party and non-deductible items.
  • E-invoicing. The Ministry of Finance has announced a phased national e-invoicing system. Businesses with annual revenue of AED 50 million or more are in the first phase, with a go-live of 1 January 2027, and the others follow later in 2027. Confirm your phase and your accredited service provider with the Federal Tax Authority, and ask your partner how invoice data will reach that provider from your version of Odoo.
  • Arabic and English. Customer-facing documents, quotations and invoices usually need both, with correct right-to-left layout.
  • Several legal entities. Mainland and free-zone companies in one group need a deliberate entity, currency and consolidation design from the first week.
  • Payroll and bank files. Salary payments in the UAE run through the Wages Protection System, so payroll and bank file formats belong in the integration inventory, not in UAT.

What must be true before go-live?

  • The trial balance, receivables and payables ageing and inventory valuation agree to the legacy system, with sign-off before cutover.
  • Each department head has signed written acceptance of the scenarios that matter to their area.
  • A full period-end has been rehearsed on migrated data.
  • Integrations (bank, government portals, e-commerce, e-invoicing) have been tested end to end.
  • Roles and permissions match real jobs, and users have been trained for their role.
  • There is a written cutover plan with a fallback, a named decision-maker and a last point of return.
  • The date avoids a quarter-end, a year-end, an audit or a VAT return.

What happens after go-live?

Hypercare for the first weeks, then a planned transition into support with a named owner on your side. Most implementation contracts end at hypercare, around day 90, but the behaviours that decide whether the investment returns anything form on day 91. Plan adoption, ownership and the first upgrade before the project team leaves.

Frequently asked questions

Can an Odoo implementation be completed in eight weeks?

Only for a small, single-entity operation with standard processes, clean data and a hard deadline. Even then, the weeks saved come from reconciliation, testing and training, and the risk moves to the first close. We would phase it.

Should we implement everything at once or in phases?

Phased, in almost every case, against operational milestones rather than module groups. Each phase should change one measurable thing.

How much customisation is acceptable?

There is no percentage. The test is whether each extension was approved against a genuine business requirement, documented, and assessed for upgrade impact at the time. Ten well-governed extensions are safer than three undocumented ones.

Does Odoo support UAE VAT?

Yes. Odoo includes a UAE localisation with a chart of accounts and VAT taxes. A partner configures it to your tax registration, your filing period and your reporting needs.

Can you take over a project from another partner?

Yes. That is a rescue engagement, and it starts with an audit. We tell you in writing, within two weeks, whether the existing build is recoverable or whether continuing costs more than restarting.

Where do we start?

With a one-week ERP readiness assessment if you are deciding whether to proceed, or with a conversation about Odoo implementation if you have decided.

Change management is a workstream, not a checkbox.
It needs a named owner, a budget line, and a metric of its own.
