No ERP is best for every business in the UAE. Odoo, SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Oracle NetSuite and Zoho each fit a different size and shape of operation. Choose by process fit first, then five-year cost, then UAE localisation (VAT, e-invoicing, Arabic) and the quality of the local partner, in that order.
A disclosure. Al Jawad implements Odoo, so we are not neutral about it. This comparison describes each product as its vendor publishes it, and it avoids prices and rankings. Confirm current editions, licensing and UAE localisation with each vendor before you decide.
How do the main ERP options compare?
| Option | Typical fit | Licensing model | Deployment | How it is extended |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Odoo | Small and mid-sized businesses, and groups that want one modular platform | Per-user subscription for Enterprise and hosted editions. A free Community edition with fewer apps. | Hosted by Odoo, hosted by a partner or on your own servers | Configuration, then modules written in Python and XML |
| SAP Business One | Small and mid-sized companies that want a structured ERP from SAP | Licence or subscription by user type | Cloud or on-premise | Add-ons and extensions, normally delivered by a partner |
| Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central | Small and mid-sized businesses already working in Microsoft 365 | Per-user subscription | Microsoft cloud, with an on-premise option | Extensions and the Microsoft Power Platform |
| Oracle NetSuite | Growing and multi-subsidiary companies that want a single cloud ERP | Subscription | Cloud only | Configuration and scripting on the platform |
| Zoho | Smaller businesses that want a suite of connected business apps | Subscription per app or suite | Cloud | Low-code tools and integrations |
Which criteria matter most for a UAE business?
- Process fit. Run your own scenarios, order to cash, procure to pay and the month-end close, not the vendor's demo script.
- Five-year cost. Licences, implementation, hosting, support, upgrades and the cost of every customisation you will carry.
- VAT and corporate tax. The system must support VAT at 5% and a clean basis for the corporate tax return, which is 9% above AED 375,000 of taxable profit.
- E-invoicing. The Ministry of Finance has announced a phased national system. Businesses with revenue of AED 50 million or more are in the first phase, with a go-live of 1 January 2027, and the others follow later in 2027. Ask each vendor and partner how invoice data will reach your accredited service provider.
- Arabic. Right-to-left screens and documents, and Arabic customer-facing output.
- Multiple entities. Mainland and free-zone entities, several currencies and consolidation.
- The partner. A product is delivered by people. Judge the partner's method, team and support as seriously as the software.
How should you run the decision?
- Write down your ten most important processes and what a good outcome looks like for each.
- Shortlist two or three options, not five.
- Ask each to run your scenarios on your own data, with your own people watching.
- Speak to references of similar size and sector.
- Compare five-year total cost on the same scope.
- Assess the partner using the ten criteria in our guide.
If you are not sure that an ERP is the right answer yet, a one-week ERP readiness assessment tests whether the organisation is ready or whether the system is being asked to fix something else.
Frequently asked questions
Which ERP is best for a small business in the UAE?
The one whose standard processes are closest to yours, with a partner you trust. For many small businesses that is a lighter suite. For others with several processes to join up, a modular platform such as Odoo fits.
Is Odoo suitable for large organisations?
Many organisations run Odoo across several companies. Suitability depends on scale, integrations and governance, which is what a readiness assessment and a blueprint establish before you commit.
Does the ERP have to support Arabic?
If your customers, staff or regulators work in Arabic, yes. Check right-to-left support in both the screens and the printed documents, with your own templates.
How long does an ERP project take?
It depends on scope. For Odoo, we see three to five months for a single-entity operation and nine to eighteen for a multi-company group. See our implementation timeline.
Should we move to a new ERP before e-invoicing starts?
Not only because of it. Confirm your phase and your accredited service provider, and ask whether your current system can supply the required data. A migration timed against a hard deadline carries risk, so plan it well ahead.
